Our First Steps
Hello! We are Rebekah + James. We met at a wedding (a total cliche) in September 2018. After a few years, a few coffee dates, a long-distance relationship, a residency, and a pandemic, we got married on a mountain in April 2021 in our home state of Colorado, and then said our vows on top of a volcano on our honeymoon in Hawaii. Exploring the Big Island’s small, family-run farms inspired us to take a leap and follow our own dreams of owning a lavender and bee farm.
While in Hawaii, we talked extensively of the life we want to live, the impact we want to make, and the kind of environment we want our (eventual) children to grow up in. We both work full-time jobs (Rebekah is a surgical Physician Assistant (PA) and James is a Data Scientist) and this is our creative side-gig. We decided that we did not want to plan for a potential “what if” in the future, but want to live that life in the now. The Nelson Bee and Lavender Company started off as a little inspiration and a whole lot of prayer.
Our first step was actually a leap. We came home from our honeymoon and decided we would stay in our current home for a few years and then start the process of looking for land. Well, then we decided to start looking for properties in order to formulate a budget. That rolled into touring land and homes “just to see.” A snowball effect that eventually turned into us buying a home on a whim under the premise of “if it’s God’s plan, what will be, will be.” Well, the next day, our offer was accepted. So we put our current home on the market, sold it the same weekend, and here we are, today, living in our new home on this new adventure.
While we don’t have bees and lavender YET, we wanted to establish a business and share with you our story from the very, very beginning. We believe we are living God’s plan for our lives and want to share our tiny, messy, grace-filled story as a testimonial of what happens when you trust a little, pray a lot, and pour love into every second of our one and only messy life. We want to share with you our real, real life and hope you draw some inspiration from our story, that despite whatever chapter you are currently living, you have the tenacity to follow your own passions and build your own life the way you envision it!
xx,
Rebekah & James
